this a 6mm male by 1/8 adapter with the koso sensor installed

replacing the coolant bleed screw I replaced it with the above set up

ambient temp matches the environment

start up and ran the bike till the fan kicked in 185f to 187f

No Leaks, what do you think?

Freaking brilliant, Ray.

Does the sensor extend down into the coolant or is it gettng the temp from the metal tubing (at the bleed screw)?

thanks Papa, no the tip of the sensor is within the adapter that has a hole in the bottom. Is the coolant stagnant in the hole or physic's keeps it moving. I don't know.So it might have a small delay.
Tomorrow I get the blue tooth OBD2 and use my tune ECU and check for accurate number
I looked for a 6mm sensor, if was over 100$ if it would work, it was a race car unit

In the past I had an intermittent working coolant temp sensor. It didn't light the MIL untill the very end of it's slow death. I have tried twice to install a gauge with no success. Now I think I have the solution. The gauge is made by Trail Tech and can be ordered with a variety of sensors. I chose the threaded 6mm by 1. My thought is to install the sensor in the coolant bleed hole. I figured how can it not work. As my gas tank nears empty I will give it a go.

nice find, the only thing that might be a problem is the length of the temp sender as it might bottom out in the housing, which will give a false reading.it would be good to know the length of the sender.

Yes Fab I thought of that also, even to the extent of the cable being pinched. The sender, minus the nut is 25 mm. If I need to I can add another nut to shorten it's depth. I really don't know if this will work , but I will try.

yes please be the guineapig and let us how it goes ,
I think it might fit as I only just did the coolant in my bike 2 weeks ago but as you said might need a extra nut and I think the cable should be fine I think you have a couple of inches room for the cable to bend.

Brilliant solution, if you can make it work. Bleed screw is in a pretty cramped location... this setup would work anywhere in system, including inserted into radiator/neck/hose. Great find, thanks Ray!

Thanks to all. I just hope that there is clearance for the sender without pinching the wire. It's has been hot/ humid in NJ. So I haven't been able to to ride comfortably, I have almost a full tank of gas and don't feel like I want to rush and sweat my arse off.
But when I do I will give you fellas all the up/ down sides. Just a little patience, yeah, yeah

Coolant temp gauge is installed. Fab you were right. The sensor bottomed out at the bleed hole.
Not a big deal as I added an extra nut with a Teflon washer and left the copper washer we're it ought to be.

Here is a pic of it on the bike

Next idea is for fisherman that aren't using there passenger pegs. This is something that I am going to have to make work, but I don't know.

Well done. I guess you can check accuracy with TuneECU.

awesome I have one on order
how much room did the sender line have, did it have to be kinked much?

The sender wire isn't real long but it's not a problem reaching the handlebars. I do think there was an extension wire if needed. The gauge has a threshold feature that will flash the temp when too hot. The birds thermostat opens at 82°c +/- 5°. What temp would you set yours at? I am not sure what temp the fan kicks in at.
So at this point you realize the gauge is powered by a 5 year non serviceable battery. In one respect this is alright because you don't have to wire current to it. But then it doesn't light up either. Not a deal breaker. Gave myself a little scare after reassembling. Without realizing I partially pulled the dashboard plug out without first testing the bike. Went to start it and I didn't hear the fuel pump prime. It was late, I was tired and I had this sinking feeling. Half ass mechanic I said to myself.

no I meant kink when its fitted under the tank, temp I would probably set at 98c.
the battery's can be replaced just a fiddly job, I have done a few with waterproof tacho.

Thanks for the battery and temp info. You won't have a problem with a kinked wire at the sender.

Rest easy Fab. Before I lifted the petrol tank I rotated the coolant temp gauge up and out of the way. The two connector pins pulled out of the male half of the connector, hence no coolant reading. All is well again.

I just saw this post.

If anyone is interested, the Gearingo gear indicator also displays the coolant temperature, and it gets the information directly from the ECM module so it's going to be very accurate. The temperature is flashed on on the display, one digit at a time, so it's not as convenient as having a dedicated display, but if you are looking for a gear indicator for your bike its an added bonus.

are you sure we discussed this when they were first out and the conclusion was it wasn't engine temp it was atmospheric temp.

Frankee should be sure.... he makes the Gearingo!
Older versions displayed the ambient temp. Newer ones the coolant temp.
They are available in USA from JBQ, outside directly from Smart Electronics.

maybe he should have updated his old posts about them so people would know, as this was a big point that was discussed and I would say what put some people off buying one . or did I miss the conversation on the new one
